The software industry must be the nucleus to transform Vietnam's economy into a digital one

Calling on software enterprises to think big and think differently to contribute to making Vietnam a great power, the head of the Ministry of Information and Communications said that even with the position and mission of the industry, it is also necessary to think differently: software must be the nucleus. to transform Vietnam's economy to a digital one.

After 30 years of assembling and processing, it's time for Vietnam to have enough conditions to create products

At the Vietnam Technology Enterprise Development Forum first held by the Ministry of Information and Communications on May 9, 2019, Government leaders and the Ministry of Information and Communications once again affirmed the industrial revolution 4.0, the trend of the future. The digital transformation is an opportunity for Vietnam to realize its mighty aspiration.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized that technology is a key factor for economic growth, escaping the middle-income trap, and turning Vietnam into a developed country. “In order to escape the middle-income trap, the first thing is to master technology and management, have the ability to invent and invent new technologies, produce high-quality goods, and advance to the leading level. in designing and manufacturing high quality products”, said the Prime Minister

The Prime Minister also emphasized: “After 30 years of assembly and processing, now is the time for Vietnam to have enough conditions to switch to creating Vietnamese technology products. Vietnam needs to develop and definitively declare a strategy to develop technology businesses. “Creating in Vietnam, designing in Vietnam, Vietnam mastering technology, proactive in production” is our statement.

The spirit and development orientation of Vietnamese technology enterprises with the slogan "Make in Vietnam" was also affirmed by Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung in the opening speech of the Forum. According to the Minister, technology is the common answer to concerns about increasing labor productivity, developing quickly and sustainably, developing inclusively, escaping the middle-income trap, and turning Vietnam into a developed country. Compared to the great powers of five continents, the aspiration for a powerful Vietnam.

“Technology can effectively solve Vietnamese problems. Vietnam with its problems is the market for the birth and development of technology businesses. Vietnam is also the cradle for Vietnamese technology enterprises to go global and solve global problems," emphasized the Minister.

Software enterprises need to return to using technology to solve Vietnamese problems

Previously, at the Executive Committee meeting of the Vietnam Software and IT Services Association (VINASA) extended in early spring 2019 held at the end of February, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung said that he wanted to solve the Vietnamese problem. In order to turn Vietnam into a great power, we must dare to think big and dream big.
Emphasizing that changing the country is the business, the Minister suggested that businesses with great resources think they can change Vietnam. "When businesses think they have a great mission, they will change Vietnam so that Vietnam will not be weak and become a power, small obstacles businesses can overcome quite easily," the Minister said.

According to the Minister's share, everyone thinks that software businesses are technology businesses, innovative and creative businesses, but in fact, they are not equal to real estate businesses. That real estate business (Vingroup - PV) when switching to technology had a different and very revolutionary approach to technology. It's time instead of continuing to apply for tax incentives, software businesses need to choose high-value things to do, pay taxes to build the country. And since we pay taxes like any other business, it's imperative that we raise our productivity.

Emphasizing the philosophy: anyone who grows up and matures must also come from a cradle where the best cradle is their own home and country, the head of the information and communication industry said that software businesses need to go from the story of making products. domestic products, solve the problem of Vietnam, consider Vietnam as the cradle from which to go to the world.

It is completely correct that businesses find easy jobs to do, but the Minister also frankly pointed out: "After 20, 30 years, it is not right to continue to do easy jobs. FPT has grown up but still continues to work as an employee, it is no longer correct to continue to do software outsourcing. Let FPT bring the knowledge accumulated in the past 20 years to Vietnam, solve Vietnamese problems, create solutions, Vietnamese products and from there to the world. Leaving is to return. That's how we solve the problem of maturity, the problem of branding."

For software enterprises, according to the Minister, to solve the "What to do" story but only thinking about coding and outsourcing to foreign countries, it is easy to be satisfied with what they have achieved. Now is the time for businesses to think about producing Vietnamese products, using them to solve Vietnam's problems, considering Vietnam as the cradle from which to bring Vietnamese products to the world.

“We must focus on developing Vietnamese technology enterprises. Technology enterprise means using technology to solve problems, technology here is digital technology, including Industry 4.0. Vietnam here means Vietnamese products, solving Vietnamese problems to bring to the world. As a specific example, when switching from outsourcing to developing Vietnamese products, the revenue per programmer will skyrocket from $25,000 to $57,000", the minister explained.

The Minister also said that, for that, we need to have different thoughts and revolutionary ways of technology to gather the world's elite here, turn Vietnam into a connection hub. for digital technology to converge to Vietnam. If Vietnam creates high-value, inspirational and high-paying jobs, it will become the center of the world.

Even with the role and mission of the software industry, according to the Minister, it is now necessary to think differently. The software is now not human resource management software, but the chip, the brain of any technology device. Or in the past, we used to think of the software industry as a part of the ICT industry and the ICT industry as a part of the economy. However, if we think that the software industry will be the nucleus to transform Vietnam's economy to a digital economy, then we are no longer a part of it, then we will promote the whole thing. entire economy, changing the entire economic structure. "Different mission, different mission, different vision and different work," said the minister.

From a business perspective, Bkav CEO Nguyen Tu Quang shared: “We have concluded that Industry 4.0 is a revolution of unlimited creativity. Unlimited creativity depends only on what you think. How dare you think and you do it. The method will have to be methodical and will have to focus on Research and Development (R&D). If businesses only focus on commerce to make profits, they will not be able to create human resources for R&D.”

A representative of Tinh Van Company commented that the strategy proposed by the Ministry of Information and Communications said that it is time for software enterprises, instead of focusing on outsourcing for export, to return to using technology to solve real problems in Vietnam. exactly. However, a representative of Tinh Van also said: "In order to implement this new strategy and orientation, the State needs a policy to attract talented people to Vietnam".
